Sports Experts Royalmount

The success of Sports Experts was and is the commitment to experimentation in the ever-changing marketplace as per the evolving needs of the sporting clientele. Sports Experts Royalmount would be the next stage in this forward-moving adventure.

As the overall mall configuration became finalized in 2022, Sports Experts would be placed most advantageously as the end view destination of the principal oval plaza. Furthermore, Sports Experts would occupy two superposed spaces. With a combined height of 33 feet and a length approaching 200 feet both on the ground floor and mezzanine levels, the creation of the most unusual and impressive of mall facades became possible.

From the onset, the combination of opportunity and constraint would be provocative. The orthogonal structural grid pattern required for the overall building was askew with principal delimiting walls and the curved façade geometry of the Sports Experts space. Massive mezzanine supports reached across the mall abutting directly onto the façade. The varying nature of straight and curved geometry, combined with varying heights of 12, 15 and 18 feet would require a most particular approach that could mitigate throughout.

As built, the chosen design completely subjugates and renders invisible the initial conflictual issues. The strong vocabulary of folding surfaces of wood and stone proceed with ease across all surface configurations and heights. The intentional climbing cliff imagery of the façade design resonates with the natural outdoor world where so much of sporting activities take place.

Driving the design process within the store was the critical analysis of spatial and volumetric needs for principal product lines; from their arrival at the lower-level delivery docks, their processing through the pricing and storage facilities, to their optimal selling spaces on the appropriate main or mezzanine merchandise floor. Equally critical was the evaluation of circulation patterns and the most advantageous positioning of elevators and escalators that would achieve fluidity for persons in both their horizontal and vertical movements.

Over a six-month period, a plethora of spatial options were thoroughly investigated, presented and discussed to obtain the most effective merchandising possibilities that could accommodate the momentum, repositioning and promotion of spring, summer, fall, and winter product displays as well as new product line introductions. As finalized in the adopted spatial layout schemes, 35 merchandise zones along walls and on center floor islands provide noticeable visibility to all of the innumerable collections and product categories. Strategically incorporated into this overall gameplan are 15 specially designed feature concepts that harbor and highlight the most sought after retail brands.

Ultimately, a powerfully recognizable and uncompromising design concept is brought into being, resulting in a new and enticing marketing brand image throughout.
