New Construction : ALL INCLUSIVE PUBLIC BATHROOM IN ROYALMOUNT

Commercial area: 243 M2 / 2614 SQFT

Project Start: May 2023

Project Delivery: August 2024

Revealed in Fall 2024, ROYALMOUNT by Carbonleo is Montreal’s newest shopping, dining & entertainment destination, with 170 stores including 60 restaurants and cafes. The retail project features 50% new-to-market concepts and the largest concentration of luxury flagships in Quebec.

Focused on lived experience, Carbonleo considers green space and inclusivity paramount and pertinent concepts in Canadian contemporary society.

This experience of inclusivity is extended as the principal concept for the design of the public bathroom in the main row of the mall.

Borrallo, leading designer in charge of the design of all common areas in the Mall together with Chrome Design, Carbonleo’s design team and other professionals involved, envisioned a space as a sanctuary where conceptual art and auditory elements converge as pivotal attractions.

Serendipitous moments reflect the architectural design, conceived as monolithic large volumes. Artworks by Cristina Mejias, Ana Borrallo and Isidro Ferrer are the focal points to an otherwise formal architecture, where raw materials such as micro-cement and steel envelop the space creating a primal cavernous atmosphere.

Lighting is deliberately understated to enhance immersion. Together with the water sounds, the effect is tranquil and mysterious.

The makeup area, whimsically staged by the designers with its mirrored ceiling and walls, sweeps you upwards to another realm.

The project was conceived entirely in 3D, with real-time rendering. Borrallo and Chrome Design’s skillful capacity to produce realistic presentations along with walk-through videos of the space, proved essential in captivating clients and generating construction drawings, allowing for the successful realization of the fast-track timeline.
