Located in a historic building in the heart of the Old Port of Montreal, the restaurant Chez L’Épicier by renowned chef Laurent Godbout is completely renovating its facilities after 18 years of activity. Inspired by the materiality and heritage of the space, the original architectural details such as the arched doors, the stone and the brick are highlighted by custom-made artificial lighting and by the integration of noble materials such as copper, roasted birch wood and leather. Divided into three sections, the space suggests different atmospheres playing a major role in the distinctive atmosphere of the restaurant.
Accessible by large glass doors, the bar area offers an intimate and subdued atmosphere. The lounge, particularly comfortable with its leather benches, is flooded with natural light passing through large windows. The recessed dining room is fitted out alongside stone walls to contain the soundscape of lively dining moments.
The furniture, materials and lighting fixtures vary according to the area in which they are located, while all the premises benefit from acoustics optimized by a coffered ceiling lined with felt. The natural colours of wood, stone and brick are combined with an indigo blue chosen to complement the orange tones of copper.
