Categories : Commercial Space / Grocery Store : Gold Certification
The japanese market Ôkini was born out of a desire from the owners of the renowned restaurant Jun I, a landmark on the Montreal gastronomic scene, to occupy the neighboring commercial space in order to create a new shop showcasing their traditional Japanese homemade products. At the same time take-out sushi counter, caterer, pastry and coffee shop, the challenge of designing Ôkini resided in the cohabitation of seemingly different functions into a fluid space, coherent and harmonious. A deep study of the "machiya", a type of traditional townhouse unique to the city of Kyoto, from which the chef of Ôkini originates, informed the design process and the creation of the different components from the spatial planning and the custom-made furniture.
