In our opinion, the school of the 21st century must be a place for life, open and friendly, where we learn, also, to be citizens. In order to achieve this prime objective, it seems fundamental to us to break down the notion of compartmentalization of the traditional program dictated by MÉES and to open up the educational components in order to extend them to the entire school. All parts of the program are reviewed and addressed as learning opportunities and places and should benefit from flexible, open and adaptable arrangements for this purpose. The classroom, however, remains a privileged place of learning and for this purpose deserves special attention.
The scale of the project seemed, for us, to be a significant element to address. We have chosen to group the three cycles of primary education into a separate learning zone. Each learning zone is assembled in a finger type unit, connected by a formal axis, including classes, educational success rooms, multipurpose space and open-plan library, PNE office, sanitary block, depot and lockers.
Nature, quite generous on the chosen site, must be an integral part of the school. The establishment of the new school promotes the interpenetration of natural elements, composes with the singular topography of the place, and promotes, by its orientation, the penetration of natural light.
