The expansion of Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau School, designed on a human scale, is positioned in the center of the site creating an interior courtyard by connecting the existing school. The concept is based on the creation of a continuous pedagogical loop connected to nature with the holistic and community space at its heart.
This gesture unites the spaces dedicated to classes, physical activity and collective spaces in an open course offering a holistic approach to teaching and creating multipurpose spaces. The courtyard invites to cross, becomes an extension of the school by promoting communication with nature, discovery and physical activity. Designed to create a sense of community and belonging, the layout creates a heart to the project that connects to the inner courtyard and becomes a focal point, a place to cross, participating in the student's daily life.
The circulation network constitutes a double loop that interconnects at vertical circulation points "not in a multitude of corridors, but a multiplicity of spaces that can be appropriated and interconnected at different scales to gather and learn. *»
The classes, organized by cycle, take advantage of an environment adapted to different levels of autonomy, in a learning path formula. The sports areas, an extension of the existing gymnasium, create a sports block opening outward to the landscaped exercise areas and then to the municipal park. (* Jury quote)
