Initiated by the desire to offer its members an innovative ensemble including a welcoming and comfortable administrative center as well as a high-level training center, the project had to be exemplary from a functional point of view and had to directly address the issue of sustainable development. Through the various measures put in place during the design phase, the project is therefore aiming for LEED V4 Platinum certification.
When developing the sketch, the architects quickly considered splitting the project into two singular parts, thus affirming the distinctive elements of the program. An administrative space and a training center; two volumes of different materiality connected by a footbridge. They are distinguished by their envelope, one in clay masonry with metallic reflections, the second in pale metallic cladding panels. Structural systems are used to differentiate the two entities. The administrative space’s structure is made of cross-laminated timber (local wood), offering warm and welcoming spaces to members. A traditional steel structure was chosen for the training center, adequately responding to the structural span typical of workshops. Materiality is intended to be sober; the components being limited mainly to wood and steel. The central atrium creates a strong place of identity for union members and a comfortable gathering place.
