GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN 19th edition
Discipline : Interior Design
Categories : Hospitality — Accommodation, Restaurant & Bar / Restaurant : Silver certification
An atmosphere that reflects the exceptional quality of Thomas Bühner’s cuisine: a dining space defined by rhythm and flow, where the kitchen is only subtly separated by semi-transparent patterned glass panels. Two counters made from Irish Green and Red Jasper marble create striking focal points while encouraging interaction and communication within the space. Attached to the green marble block is an open kitchen island animated by a chef in direct dialogue with guests. Classical table settings are framed by wave-like velvet wall installations, while a wine cabinet with integrated cooling island welcomes guests for an aperitif.
The interior design was developed in close collaboration with Thomas Bühner and reflects the precision, aesthetic clarity, and perfectionism that define his cuisine. Rather than being decorative or excessive, the concept is reduced to its essence: materials, lighting, colors, and surfaces form a refined yet inviting atmosphere, sophisticated in detail and calm in expression.
Cool natural stone surfaces contrast with matte concrete and warm wood finishes. At the center are two contrasting yet connected communal tables: a red, square high table opposite an organic green table with integrated cooking island. Much like Bühner’s culinary philosophy — combining Asian and French influences — these elements form a dynamic yet harmonious unity.
The design deliberately avoids regional references and instead creates an individual identity, mirroring the cuisine’s ability to combine the familiar with the unexpected into entirely new sensory experiences.
The restaurant is divided into different zones to encourage movement and communication. Guests first enter through a transitional antechamber with large-scale video screens reflected in metallic wall claddings, creating an immersive introduction to the world of LA VIE. The dining area includes a Wine Lounge for aperitifs, as well as a variety of seating arrangements with high and low tables tailored to different guest experiences. At the end of the evening, guests may select small delicacies from the “Candy Shop.”
With only 27 seats, the fine dining restaurant is conceived as a holistic guest experience shaped by craftsmanship, hospitality, and atmosphere. Every detail — from staff selection and tableware to art, decoration, and menu composition — is carefully curated and coordinated.
Sustainability was integral to the project: durable and certified materials were selected throughout, local contractors were prioritized to reduce transport distances, and restaurant operations largely avoid paper, plastic, and aluminum foil. The menu follows a zero-waste philosophy and emphasizes locally sourced ingredients.
