Cathédrale Las Vegas honors the legacy and DNA of the original Cathédrale, located in Moxy East Village. The New York City restaurant was particularly inspired by the Fillmore East, a now-shuttered but legendary Lower East Side rock ‘n roll concert hall, with its soaring ceiling and underground spirit. The Las Vegas location extends the spirit of that layered, urban decadence and grit, while celebrating the architectural drama, grandeur, and decorative flourish inherent to the restaurant’s brand.
The new restaurant and lounge is located within ARIA Las Vegas and adjacent to CATCH (also designed by Rockwell Group) in the main lobby. Guests enter the restaurant through blue velour swag drapery cascading from behind a brushed bronze marquee frame. A small reveal in the curtain facade invites them to continue along a dramatically lit tunnel that leads to the lounge. The arched tunnel features metal frame modules containing metal mesh panels, interspersed with textured metallic plaster walls. Niches hold flickering candles. Gold metal pieces in the mosaic tile floor increase as the tunnel terminates at a custom art piece by Portuguese artist VHILS.
Guests then enter through a bronze portal into the main bar and lounge, where the standout element of the space is a sculptural metal beaded chain canopy (designed in collaboration with the lighting company Willowlamp) above the bar. Black brick walls on either side of the bar are “patched” with hints of gold metal infill — a nod to the New York location. Diners are further embraced by walls featuring a dynamic rhythm of blue millwork columns interspersed with metal mesh panels on top of shimmering aged plaster with dramatic uplighting.
In the main dining room, Willowlamp and Rockwell Group conceived a theatrical and monumental ceiling installation that is architecturally-inspired. Blue leather banquettes line the perimeter of the dining room in front of low millwork with operable blue drapery. One wall features mirrored panels, reflecting the movement of the room, while the opposite contains a window into the energy of the PDRs, creating a subtle visual illusion on either side.
The material palette retains the patina and high-end industrial edge of the New York restaurant, with cognac and blue leather furniture, distressed mirrors, circle-sawn wood paneling and tabletops, polished metal details, and distressed wood and concrete floors. The lounge, main dining room, and PDRs can function separately or cohesively.
