GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 14th edition
Discipline : Interior Design
Categories : Culture, Sport & Leisure / Event Design & Ephemeral Installation : Gold Certification
Presented on the Avenue du Musée, pedestrianized to welcome walkers in summer, Voiliers echoes the major exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts: Paris in the days of post-impressionism: Signac and the Independents. With its chromatic touches juxtaposed on the ground, the ephemeral installation evokes the shimmering sea, often present in the paintings of Paul Signac (1863-1935). Like a mirror of pixels, the painted space is crossed by a linear garden composed of plants chosen for their colorful buttons. Among the plants are plaques bearing the name and messages of donors to the annual campaign of the MMFA Foundation, that create a superposition of pastel colors, like the pictorial practice developed by the Post-Impressionists.
Thought out and designed in a pandemic context, the installation poetically evokes our remote society. Benches allow users to relax and enjoy their surroundings while maintaining a safe distance of two meters. They offer choice points of view on the works of the MMFA's Sculpture Garden. The users of the square are sailboats. Boats forced to sail at a distance from each other. Wandering across an ocean like a pixelated screen, we are teleworking islands, sails of benevolence in search of the horizon. In a world fleeing collisions, the square vibrates with positivism or dialogue, with harmony and unity, the joy of colors.
