Overview
Vancouver Tower built in 1991, is an example of post-modern architecture. However, it was time to bring it not only into the new millennium, but into a new decade.
Challenges
– Working around 126 homes with potentially 250 – 400 people entering and exiting the lobby every day.
– The 20 foot ceiling requiring the use of a Genie Lift for tiling, painting and the electrical work. Light fixtures needed to be of superior quality with long durability which required research and experimentation.
Stand out Features
– Porcelain woodgrain floor tiles in a chevron pattern was used to give the feeling of hardwood with the durability of tile.
– The high walls were clad in striking large format Marmara porcelain tiles which elicits a feeling of grandeur .
– Rich colours were used to accent the bespoke wool carpets, bespoke stool, toss cushions and commissioned Artwork.
– The designer used wallcovering and created a bespoke collage of tinted bronze mirror in the elevator lobby which not only gave the space an enlarged feel but a more luxe feel.
– Bespoke baseboards were designed to tie in the existing brass elevator doors and brass details. This feature was uniquely designed using square antique brass metal rods on top of standard 6 inch wood baseboards which were painted to spec.
– Possibly the most striking feature of all is the stunning artisanal chandelier from Portugal, known for its handmade organic shapes which complement the beautiful furniture from France.
