GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 14th edition
Discipline : Urban Design, Landscape Architecture & Landscaping
Categories : Urban Design / TOD Project : Gold Certification
The aim of this project was to plan the densification of a key sector of the Town of L’Assomption in view of the arrival of a future commuter station. It is part of an extensive reflection process on the future of former industrial sites left vacant by the Electrolux plant. This is a true, multi-purpose, TOD neighbourhood suitable for economic development, focusing on the integration of an innovative, unifying project: the “Agtech Zone”. This Agtech Zone is a place for innovation, strategic networking, and business knowledge and acceleration, with an entire ecosystem of new agricultural technologies (energy transfer, aquaponics, greenhouse cultivation, vertical farming, smart farming, etc). This business hub ensures economic vitality and will lead to the requalification of industrial sites in accordance with the principles of sustainable development. Moreover, the creation of a high-density, mixed hub close to the train station will consolidate the urban fabric and offer complementary uses to support the industrial vocation. The project fits harmoniously into its urban setting and ensures that an attractive living environment is maintained. Ultimately, it will help create a complete, attractive, living environment that is focused on a mix of activities that complement each other, on the quality of the built environment, on the enhancement of public spaces and on sustainable transportation.
