Time Valley is a mixed-use research & development complex situated in one of Shenzhen’s industrial areas famous for watch and clock-making. The landscape design explores the definition of time, from the big bang, to space time and human time. The explosive paving of the Big Bang Plaza extends as a point, shooting across a public street as a crosswalk. Guests enter the Space Time plaza via a triangulated stair of the crosswalk. The Space Time Plaza, emphasizing the creation of space, is dominated by a graphic scheme of exploding triangles, zigzags, swizzles, and a circle. Graphically these elements appear to be floating within in the Space Time zone by utilizing visual overlap and also a form of a drop shadow.
Viewed at many points from the windows of the surrounding towers, the Space Time plaza presents an exciting graphic landscape, which although very flat to accommodate fire safety vehicles, appears spatial. At the ground level some of the shapes extrude into planters featuring the delicate Madagascar Almond trees and a massive Bombax Ceiba. At the finest scale of detail BAM created another sub-pattern within the graphic system to create custom ceramic tiles for the elevations of the planters. The planter wall tops are cast in a white terrazzo with subtle cobalt flecks.
