GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 14e édition
Discipline : Industrial Design & Product Design
Categories : Industrial Design / Automotive & Transportation : Platinum Winner
The vision behind “The Pony” was to develop an environmentally friendly family vehicle appropriate for big and crowded cities. It enables users to travel with family and goods with minimal physical efforts while making a sustainable choice that compromise neither comfort nor aesthetics. Given the intense crowd on the city roads with little room to turn the vehicle, the bike is designed to rotate on its axis. The aesthetics of the bike is extremely modern in three different colors to appeal to both men and women. The design is based on customer's feedback and the desire of making sustainable choices to reduce carbon footprint and better control, safety, and ease of driving in the cities.
Before it entered the market, the design went through numerous tests and iteration based on customer feedback. The cargo box comprised recyclable plastic and leftover plastic used to create the seats to minimize wastage. For extra protection in case of collision, the steel frame is used to hold the cargo box to make the bike safer. The rear-wheel steering and frame ensure that the amount of load does not affect the stability. Family size, attributes of big cities, safety standards, and environmental concerns of the target segment were the focal point. Hence the construction of the cargo box ensured to contain up to 3 children and at the same time not take up too much space on roads. With "The Pony" the user's joy of driving is high, and carbon footprint is low.
