The Tero project was born from the desire to offer an alternative to composting for those who do not have access to an outdoor yard or municipal collection service. Elizabeth and Valérie, co-founders of the company, came up with the idea for their end-of-year project at Université Laval in product design.
In just a few hours, the Tero device turns food waste into a natural fertilizer that can be used in outdoor plants, the lawn or the garden. Its unique grinding and drying technology is silent and odourless. It is entirely designed and manufactured in Quebec and its technology is currently patent pending.
In order to get their project off to a good start, the two entrepreneurs launched a crowdfunding campaign on the Kickstarter platform in the fall of 2019. After raising over $1.7 million in one month, Elizabeth and Valerie were ready to launch the business and bring the Tero device to life.
With a growing team behind them, the two women developed the Tero device over time to reach its final design today. The device will hit the homes of thousands of households in the summer of 2021 and will help keep a lot of waste out of landfills, where it releases environmentally harmful GHGs.
