Showroom of möbel, certified distributor of MillerKnoll
In February 2024, in the Outremont district, the showroom of möbel, MillerKnoll’s certified distributor in Quebec, was inaugurated. Founding partners Jean-Philippe Dufour and Dany Gravel made a strategic investment in a historic site, totaling 15,000 square feet spread over 2 floors, including a generous rooftop terrace. This venue aims to exhibit and showcase all the brands available under the MillerKnoll manufacturing group.
Enjoying a 360-degree view of Montreal, with an exceptional panorama of the Olympic Stadium and Mount Royal, this showroom is located on the 9th and 10th floors of 400 Ave. Atlantic, a restored heritage building in a neighborhood undergoing major transformation. This venue was chosen by möbel for its central location on and around the island of Montreal, but above all for its heritage, which harmonizes perfectly with the historical perspective of MillerKnoll, the group of renowned manufacturers bringing together the leading innovators in commercial and residential furniture. Among them are brands such as Herman Miller, Knoll, Hay, Muuto, Naughtone, Maharam and many more, all renowned for their iconic designs and commitment to innovation, quality and respect for the environment.
The award-winning firm Provencher_Roy designed this showroom, in close collaboration with möbel to offer much more than just a furniture display – it’s an immersive experience for visitors. Every detail, from the sculptural staircase designed to link the two floors in the center of the space to the vast exhibition area, from the choice of furniture to the inclusion of warm carpets, has been meticulously thought out to stimulate customers’imaginations and enable them to visualize their inspiring future environment, not forgetting the large terrace that showcases the range of outdoor furniture on offer. In addition, the rental of the executive conference rooms provides a versatile space for the design community and industry partners.
The main design challenges involved respecting and enhancing the architectural features of the heritage building. During the project, Provencher_Roy worked and coordinated constantly with the various parties involved to manage the existing ceiling heights, ductwork and drains, with the aim of keeping the building’s structure visible by removing less aesthetic elements. The architecture on display is sober, timeless, and puts MillerKnoll products front and center. The space is intended to inspire Quebec designers.
As the first showroom of this scale in Quebec, it transcends its conventional role to reflect a symbiosis of history and innovation in design. möbel’s vision, with the expertise of architecture firm Provencher_Roy, has resulted in a space that offers visitors an immersive experience. This showroom is sure to inspire the bold new commercial, institutional and residential designs that will win awards in the years to come, and help position Quebec as a design benchmark.
