The Patricia Residence is a renovation and an expansion of a house in Greenfield Park, on the South Shore of Montreal. Minimalist, this project benefits from simple, luminous and timeless spaces.
The client wanted a kitchen that makes her want to cook, more welcoming and open than the old one. At the heart of the project, the new space sets the tone for the adjacent reception areas: on the menu, minimalism, luminosity and alignment, contrasting with the old dark, angular and narrow kitchen.
This newly refurbished space is surrounded by two volumes, one high up, which integrates the appliances and hides the stairs, and another lower, front to the window that contains the hob and the built-in hood as well. The L-shaped countertop slightly closes off the kitchen, but keeps it visually open to the large reception room. In the dining room, the exposed CLT joists highlight the new extension while providing more height to the space.
As the client is passionate about orchids, the architects proposed to integrate a plant library, in the image of a vertical garden . This cherry wood furniture blends harmoniously into the space while having its own identity, slightly detached from the floor and ceiling. A cherry wood floor and a monochrome aesthetic unify the kitchen, dining room and library space.
