The fruit of an innovative collaboration between a digital art artist, a manufacturing agent and an interior design team the Renaissance x Fondamental project proposes an exploration of the fusion of art and design to create a unique interior space.
In the world of contemporary creation, the union of art and functionality opens new doors to human expression and experience. It is in this spirit that the collaborative project between digital artist Paul-Émile Rioux, manufacturing distributor API and design studio ISSASTUDIO came to life.
The project places art and functionality at the heart of the design process.
The project sets up two distinct, immersive universes immersing us in the works of artist Paul-Émile Rioux, creator of digital virtual worlds exploring the boundaries of reality and imagination to capture the very essence of our emotions. Each world is designed and set in relation to the immediate environment within API’s corporate spaces, in an ambience corresponding to the theme of the work.
The process of creating and selecting the works began with a round-table discussion where each was analyzed by the designers, exploring the emotions and perceptions they evoked. The design team also considered the desired functions of each room: resourcing and collaboration. The research resulted in a correspondence between the emotions conveyed by the works and their function. Responding perfectly to the chosen themes, two paintings were selected.
The work Fundamental reinforces the idea we have of encounter. The image suggests dynamism and vibrancy through the orange color evoking action, movement. In the designers’ imagination, urban life is illustrated by these lines forming the idea of a building and these illuminated fireplaces, reminiscent in their own way of lively neighborhood life. Designed to be immersive and participatory, the mural stretches across the floor and up the wall, creating a dynamic and engaging visual experience. In places, it springs up three-dimensionally, offering varied perspectives and textures that engage the senses. To accentuate this immersion, lighting has been integrated to simulate illuminated windows. As for the furniture, it was chosen to encourage collaboration and interaction.
In contrast, the Renaissance work evokes the calm and gentleness of a morning by the water. The designers sought to create a peaceful, relaxing environment, using tones reminiscent of nature, undulating shapes and natural materials. Subdued lighting creates a soothing, calming effect. Shades of blue have been added to evoke the freshness of water and the serenity of nature.
To encourage interaction and exploration, miniature versions of the mural were made available on the tables, inviting users to manipulate and discover them up close. This participatory approach allows the work to be explored in a tactile and sensory way, reinforcing immersion in the room’s creative universe.
In summary, this collaborative project embodies the fusion of digital art and the material environment, offering a new horizon for creativity and the well-being of individuals within their professional environment.
