Quartz Co. has called on Rainville Sangaré and Blanchette Architects to transpose the vision of their new space. The inspiration is Nordic, with a transparent, minimalist and sustainable design.
In addition to displaying their coats in the window, the layout of the space showcases the sewing workshop on the street, proudly saluting their Quebec design. The interplay of grids, straight stitches and frames, expressed by repetitions, lighting and the ceilings, provide flexibility to the layout while featuring the furniture by Rainville Sangaré. The mirrors, coupled with niches for hanging, offer an alternating perception of space, allowing a dual reflection and facilitating fitting.
Rainville Sangaré’s stainless steel poles do not use any welding, but rather use friction and tension to hold the hanging bar in place. The hardware and attachment mechanisms are left visible to communicate the precision of the work and expose the tension systems of the tubes.
By coupling industrial precision with the artisan’s sensitivity, the design recalls the way Quartz
Co. creates and manufactures its coats. The interior details reflect this quest for precise handcraft that highlights the brand. As the coats are made locally, the design choices should be also. That’s why materials such as ash are used, the most common species in Montreal.
