An unfinished house comes back to life
It was a matter of striking the right balance for this home to provide a smooth transition in terms of style and way of life. It also had to fulfill their desire to combine functionality with a closer connection to nature, in a place designed for relaxation.
Existing divisions were reviewed, rethought and kept to a minimum in order to open up the space. The internal articulation remains simple and revolves around the centre of the house.
Meant to be encased between two walls, the staircase was relocated to be integrated into common area. With its sturdy steel and wood structure, brightened by glass panels that allow the light to shine through, it becomes a sculpture.
The use of natural materials contrasts with the simplicity and purity of the lines and textures, each showing its intrinsic beauty and strength. Granite, onyx and wood are combined with glass and metal to make the most of both daylight and mood lighting.
In a bathroom designed for relaxation, the bathtub draws the eye. The pebbles that surround it bring to mind the nearby river. When they’re lit up, they create a soft play of light and shadow all around, instantly fostering a serene atmosphere. The scene is mirrored by the shower’s glass wall, accentuating the room’s depth and reinforcing a sense of well-being. While the granite sparkles with reflected light, the shower walls’ black geometric mosaic gives the decor a dynamic touch without being overpowering.
