Industrial Designer Carl Gustav Magnusson identified a common shortcoming of the modern conference chair and developed a proprietary and simple solution to improve its functionality. Affordable and expertly crafted, Prata® utilizes a mechanism concealed within its seat frame that allows a user to intuitively adjust their position. Paying attention to details such as where a person’s arm naturally falls as they sit and understanding how they internalize buttons and levers, will ultimately produce a chair that offers more than just features, but seamless, user-friendly functionality. One of the inspirations for Prata’s design came from the layout of the office conference room. Magnusson noticed that individuals usually approach conference chairs from the back. In order to make an impactful design impression, he decided that the back of the chair needs to be visually inviting. Prata was crafted to have a subtle curve in its back that not only draws the eye towards its unique shape, but provides added comfort to the user’s arms. The striking shape continues with the surround cast aluminum frame which then turns into the discreetly placed hepatic levers—one on each side for symmetry. The levers provide upward, downward, and angular movement for proper back support and comfort. The weight-activated mechanism can also intuitively adjust to the user to further optimize the experience. Aesthetically, Prata is unique for an office chair due to its soft and approachable look and feel.
