GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 14th edition

Among 74 firms that pre-qualified in the call launched by Bureau du design last summer, we were selected to develop a winter station for the borough of Montréal-Nord, at the corner of Charleroi Avenue and l'Archevêque Street. A lit oasis in the cold of winter, this mirage-like village seems to float above a snowy landscape. With a subtle wink to the covid confinement regulations, Photophore attempts to break down the walls by warming our hearts. It is in the heart of winter that we now approach a new season, togetherness while being apart. Meet your neighborhood or take a moment for yourself with this vision of light and surface reflection. Expressed by its architectural scale, the project integrates itself into the landscape by proposing two large volumes with pure forms, which seem to float thanks to large mirror walls reflecting the urban context of the Avenue Charleroi, amplifying its activity. Placed in the foreground of the vacant lot, Photophore directly engages a dialogue between its scale and the passers-by, who are challenged by the play of lights projected by the luminous volumes. This light, created at the heart of the modules, is diffused by graphic perforations that pique curiosity, stimulate creativity, and offer a moment of contemplation through the path of the beam through the mirror. Capped by large lanterns, the volumes warm and light up the winter nights to offer a warm space and rise like a signal point in the streets of the borough of Montréal-Nord.
