Starting from a wide issue related to the current challenges of the funeral industry, such as the acceleration of life rythm, the evolution of cultural and religious values and the increased desire for sustainable development practices, the mourning experience becomes this variable orienting the proposal, Petal, towards concepts of personification, timelessness and presence of the body.
Petal reinterprets these different characteristics of personification through a series of products, using the funeral urn as a central element to provoke an entry into mourning experience. The product selection offers a new ritual based on exchange and the enhancement of the body, ensuring to retain ecological advantage and memorial heritage. Presence of the body is evoked by a distinction of form and texture in urn’s center and amplified by the use of “postcrematory” residues (ashes) directly to the natural fiber materiality, causing thereby realization of the loss. Once underground, time interferes with materiality, freeing ashes for a return to earth- a parallel to mourning experience.
Besides the formal and aesthetic aspect, Petal, through its materiality (natural fiber), plays an important role in the democratization of funerary objects, reducing the costs of supply, production and thus the funeral market.
