Establishing a dialogue with the Maison des étudiants and amply open to the park that separates them, Pavilion D is the new showcase of student activity at ÉTS. Its distinctive geometry, its materiality combining transparency and opacity as well as the large visual openings towards the workshops on the first floor make it a new landmark on campus.
More than ever, architecture and interior design are intertwined to create a dynamic environment where instinct leads to meetings, including collaborative work zones, lively meeting places that promote collaboration and innovation.
The glass curtain wall immediately establishes the interior-exterior connection, reinforced by the multiple vertical layers that follow one another toward the centre. Intervening in turn to frame or punctuate the path, combining transparency, openness, and relief to shape the space, they offer users many ways of inhabiting, of appropriating the space.
On the park side, the student club spaces with their glass garage doors open up like kiosks onto a wide circulation, while on the opposite William Street side, the manufacturing workshops are positioned directly in front, in full view.
The setback of the upper volume creates a large balcony, which is converted into a vast terrace and provides a view of the park. In addition to providing a superb outdoor space, this movement in the volumetry accentuates the impact of the opening effect onto the garden.
