Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park was once at the heart of an important network of quarries. Stemming from this heritage, it was naturally limestone that was chosen to partly compose the new stands for the park's baseball field, a material peculiar to the City of Montreal’s architecture. Sourced locally from the Saint-Jacques quarry, the stones are embedded in the mound and blend naturally with the landscape.
This architectural gesture is part of a multifunctional furniture grouping including a bench for baseball players with storage for their equipment and an official’s table.
Unlike the bleachers that are traditionally found on sports fields, this furniture ensemble is fully integrated into the park with multidirectional access. In the spirit of a continuous movement, the staircase transforms itself through the mound into a space which, beyond being dedicated to baseball, can become a friendly, accessible and flexible place for all users of the park.
