This country retreat is the project of a lifetime for a couple and their three children who, for years had dreamt of a house by a lake, surrounded by nature. When they discovered a 15-acre point jutting into Brome Lake, they knew they were home. And, for us, the architects, the splendor of the site became our source of inspiration.
The house is made of two rectangular volumes, carefully stacked one on top of the other. The kitchen, where both volumes meet, is the true heart of the project. During the summer months, its giant doors slide apart and open up to the exterior deck, the pool, and the lake shore beyond.
Stone, glass and wood were selected to build this home. Purchased locally, six varieties of stone chosen for their subtle hues anchor the house in the landscape; glass, used everywhere on the ground floor, brings natural light in; wood was the obvious choice for the intimate interiors. Everything here has been designed to create a feeling of constant interaction with nature.
