Bullion’s project consisted of renovating and extending a derelict house on the Plateau Mont-Royal in Montreal.
The architectural team chose a restrained approach, in keeping with the era of the house.
The architectural team chose a sober approach, in keeping with the era of the residence. The house stands out by successively highlighting the presence and then the absence of the original elements, materialized by a vertical rift of light that symbolically divides it in two. Major structural interventions were required to achieve this architectural gap. In addition, the restoration and reproduction of period mouldings was of paramount importance to this project.
.
Externally, the house blends harmoniously into the neighborhood. The front facade has been entirely restored, with the exception of its brickwork. In this way, the residence blends naturally into the row of neighboring houses, re-establishing a coherent visual order.
To the rear, the residence’s extension unfolds in successive tiers, aligning with adjacent existing elements to preserve harmony with the neighborhood.
In short, the project testifies to careful listening and a deep understanding of architectural details, the essence of a place, spatial composition, the arrangement of materials and light. Bringing this project to life required a mastery of construction and restoration techniques. Only the utmost know-how and expertise enabled us to deliver this project.
