GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 14th edition
Discipline : Interior Design
Categories : Commercial Space / Beauty/Cosmetics : Platinum Winner
Design firm gauleybrothers, created the minimal interior for an organic cosmetics boutique.
The store is located on St Denis Street – Montréal's premier local artisan destination.
The comparatively small Beauty boutique occupies the ground floor of an unassuming building and has a recessed facade and partially glazed shopfront.
Beauty products are displayed on rows of shelves arranged like a library inside this Montréal cosmetics store
Colourfully packaged products are arranged on floor-to-ceiling heavy raw steel grid shelving units, on which lies a thin layer of felt, which are positioned on the perimeter of the space.
The design team provided a raw oak seating unit that is claded with felt, and serves as more storage.
The Moon Table is designed to look like the different phases of the moon, which slot into a display unit, providing an uncluttered view and focus on the cruelty free organic products.
The Low Tube Table also plays as a display space ,featuring tubes made of steel that seem to defy gravity.
"In this way, the store not only sells cosmetic products, but the space is designed as a place where knowledge relating to them can be obtained by keeping the focus on the products”
"For a woman to enhance her beauty, a close linkage between inner and outer body care is required," said the studio. "We therefore designed a service and space based on a concept that fuses to the maximum the features of cosmetics with the calmness of natural esthetic “
