Le Jardinier is a 17 unit residential project located in the heart of the Hochelaga district. One of the main challenges of the project, influenced by its location in a rapidly changing sector, was to design high-quality units while offering competitive prices. To this objective were added contemporary issues related to the development of urban environments, namely densification, adding vegetation and the retention of families in the city.
The project's construction link with a building on Sainte-Catherine Street has made it possible to design a building of greater height than those on de Rouville Street, on which it is located, thus favouring a gentle densification. This construction link concerns a building of heritage interest whose facade, meticulously composed, features numerous sets of bricks. This checkerboard effect guided the architectural concept, supporting the link between the new construction and the existing building. Le Jardinier’s facade was therefore composed with a similar meticulous attention to detail, with the staggered arrangement of the dwellings providing setbacks and creating high-quality, covered and intimate outdoor spaces. The amount of fenestration was maximized, and the provision of natural light as well as the backyard with private vegetable gardens directly contributes to the quality of the homes. These elements are an integral part of a green strategy that guided the design of the project and resulted in gaining its LEED® Platinum certifica
