Between the building of a former YMCA and the new auditorium, a volume of glass is inserted. A large vertical void bathed in light becomes a meeting place between the community and the world of theater, the old and the new, the real and the imaginary. The volume is cut according to the founding axes of the city from which the diagonal that founds the project is derived. A cut in the volume of the YMCA opens the heart of the building and creates a new place: le Diamant.
Le Diamant shines on the Place d'Youville where the spectator's experience begins. Its volume of glass reveals the activity behind the YMCA's restored façade. The engraved concrete façade on Rue des Glacis reveals the drawings of the never-built sports annex. The halls with black reflective surfaces commemorate the former hall of the Cinéma de Paris with a play of reflections. The contrast between the dark halls and the light heart of the building accentuates the call of light and draws the visitor to the monumental staircase. On the way up, he can appreciate the materialized section before seeing in the foyer the new concrete structure that reconstructs the old brick walls. The wooden structures and arches of the old walls, the ceilings and the floor pattern evoke the old living rooms. The walk continues through the large glass foyer before arriving in the auditorium where the memory of the place can be read on the engraved walls of the YMCA's façade modenature.
