The UQAM bell tower is an iconic building in the Montreal landscape. Taking advantage of the architectural restoration of the bell tower, UQAM, in collaboration with the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership, wanted to offer it a permanent nocturnal presence.
The goal was to create an evolving luminous identity that would highlight the richness of its details as well as give it a distinctive signature in the neighborhood and throughout the city. Discover its architecture according to the lighting scenario. Illuminate the upper part of the whole four façades to reveal its presence in the distance.
The lighting was scripted in the form of architectural postures. The use of dynamic white allows it to be highlighted in all subtlety.
The scenario is composed of 5 key moments: the first posture, awakening, highlights the texture of the stone through the use of warm white. Then, the stretching sequence reveals the verticality of the building. The next posture, the heart, a more sustained lighting coming from the inside of the bell tower makes us discover the openings, the windows and the rose window. A luminous scene follows, expressing the vitality of the bell tower in the urban landscape. The 5th and last posture, relaxation, ends the luminous scenario with luminous expressions highlighting the ends of the building, the spire and the pedestrian space.
