Mandate: New Construction
Size: 2,990 sq ft
This project marks a particularly special undertaking for Daoust Design.
One notable aspect is the relocation of the previously existing home on the site. It was moved by water to make room for this new structure, a generous donation by the clients to a family in need on the opposite shore. This act was not only ecologically responsible but also a profound display of human kindness, setting a commendable precedent for the project.
Additionally, it’s crucial to acknowledge the contributions of the late Bone Structure in the architectural design of the new residence. The building stands as a testament to cutting-edge energy efficiency and construction quality, a direct reflection of the architectural firm’s innovative vision.
The design of each space within the residence has been meticulously planned to fulfill specific requirements, ensuring a comfortable and seamless living experience for its inhabitants. The layout features spacious, single-level rooms flooded with natural light, offering breathtaking views of the St. Lawrence River and facilitating smooth movement throughout the home. The polished concrete flooring and oversized white oak doors inject a sense of authenticity and warmth, complementing the high ceilings adorned with wood veneer and white beams to enhance the space without overwhelming it.
The home’s uniqueness is showcased in its brilliant incorporation of nature through expansive glass walls. A striking three-sided fireplace, constructed from large stone blocks, fosters a cozy and immersive atmosphere, seamlessly connecting the home’s various areas. This fireplace also inspired the design of a corridor featuring an impressive wine cellar.
The kitchen, sunroom, bathroom, and bedrooms are characterized by their understated design, elevated by strategic architectural and decorative lighting. This subtly contrasts with the home’s overall aesthetic while emphasizing the owners’ meticulous attention to color, volume, materials, and artwork. These elements reflect a deep personal investment in the space, crafting an environment that truly resonates with the occupants.
This new residence now serves as a cherished retreat for its Toronto-based owners and their beloved dog.
