Located on the magnificent St-Denis Street in Montreal, La Dépendance Espace Hygge |Café & Boutique represents a new integrated space concept where a cafe restaurant, a boutique and a rental conference room co-exist. The Espace 313’s team faced the challenge of metamorphosing an outdated and dull old cafe into a fabulous and soothing Scandinavian-inspired interior. This transformation called, among others, for the covering of the dark existing wood, the addition of specified lighting, and the integration of new lightly-colored and uncluttered furniture. Upon entering, we note the volume and material of the pastry counter in calacatta marble and blond wood. All spaces were carefully studied and maximized because the irregular dimensions of the local created challenges for the designers. How about the outstanding floral ceiling and its blond wooden slats creating a comfortable and enveloping restauration zone? The boutique space, entirely integrated to the global area, creates a pleasant spatial transition towards the conference room which is located in the back, to preserve the semi-intimacy it requires. We can see the imitation white roof trusses installed to create not only volume but acoustic comfort. La Dépendance allows its visitors to experience a complete Hygge moment where they can appreciate the present moment.
