GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 14th edition
Discipline : Interior Design
Categories : Education, Institution & Healthcare / Elementary School & Kindergarten : Platinum Winner
The concept behind the design of the new Kids Childcare + Preschool is based on a branch deployment. It offers a comfortable, safe environment that promotes the well-being of its occupants, young and old, through the use of natural toxin-free materials, like wood. Its natural texture fuse with the decor on multiple scales, thus children can feel, touch, and see it. This warm material enhances the positive effects of biophilia in the built space.
The project had to meet the requirements of a preschool in regard to, among other things, the importance of creating a variety of space typologies, necessary to meet the specific needs of each small occupant. Thus, came the idea to create "cloudy or bubble" spaces. These colorful covered areas give the impression of a separate space without being closed off, creating smaller, more whimsical areas for children.
The client requested that healthy nutrition be put in the center of the children's experience. Therefore, the kitchen plays a key role in the design of the space like it does in most households. Responsible for the client’s visual identity, the agency Sid Lee created personalized illustrations based on the fruits and vegetables. Now painted on the walls, these illustrations promote the concept of nutritional education for children, that is at the heart KIDS Childcare’s mission and values.
