Hew & Draw Hotel, is a 36-room boutique hotel located in Western Newfoundland in the city of Corner Brook. The landmark hotel is the first of its kind in this vibrant community and a four-season hub for tourists, and residents alike. Formerly a 2-storey bargain retail store, the building now spans 3 storeys with a microbrewery on ground level.
The Interior concept is an extension of the local vernacular, the beauty of the natural resources and rugged landscape. The historical context is translated into the built environment and serves as the design principles for the project. The colour palette, texture and patterns selected for the project were inspired by the local “townsite” architecture, former Newfoundland railway, the rugged outdoors, and the logging industry.
Acting as the “hearth” of the building, the exterior high gloss green tile wraps inside and is visible from both the lobby and the adjacent Taproom. The rich depth of the green tile houses a 2-sided wood burning fireplace experienced from both spaces. The millwork details of the round reception desk and battens used on the wall paneling in a typical room corridor were inspired by the interior of a train car. The texture and pattern of the carpeting in the corridors, textiles used on the furnishings, and the wool headboards in the guest rooms were selected to provide a comfortable, yet modern twist of a cabin in the woods.
