GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 14e édition
Discipline : Interior Design : Grand Winner Int'l
Categories : Commercial Space / Commercial Space ≤ 1,600 sq.ft. (≤ 150 sq.m.)
Fukuoka Zoological Garden is located close to Hakata, a ward of Fukuoka city, and surrounded by quiet residential area with green and open to the citizens. Client operates gift stores for zoo, botanical gardens, and aquarium, and produce, design, and manufacture gifts for stores such as staffed animals and sweets. They asked us to design open and welcoming new gift store in the Zoological Garden where anyone can come.
Grand concept, “Oasis in the City”, and store named Petit Monde meaning small world in French, blends into store’s design concept “Nurturing in Oasis.” Dynamic big growing tree as a motif of ’Jack and the Beanstalk’, is in the center of store and small stuffed animals are displayed as if they enjoy playing around in zoo. People of all ages can enjoy spending fun moment.
We challenged for gift store at the last space in real biological exhibition because it should be extension and last exhibition space without returning to reality. This method allows visitors not only to purchase products, but also to retrospectively experience what they have seen and felt at the zoo, and to experience another form of entertainment at the end to keep visitors' dreams alive and bring back memories.
