Once the gateway for navigators arriving in Montreal by the St. Lawrence River, the Pied-du-Courant sector still constitutes an urban threshold today. In this spirit, the esplanade acts as a veritable open door to the river and the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, two elements that identify the neighborhood. This public axis is an invitation from the district of the old Faubourgs, from the square to the central park, via the shared streets. The overall plan is structured around several major actions:
The division of the mega-block by the extension of Tansley and Falardeau streets, forming blocks of sizes favorable to pedestrian movements;
Enhancement of the views of the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, in particular from the De Lorimier and Parthenais axes, and from Sainte-Catherine Street East;
The establishment of a sequence of open spaces creating a central esplanade from Sainte-Catherine Street East and towards the Jacques-Cartier Bridge;
The deployment of a network of green spaces and multipurpose routes connecting to the neighborhood's green network, accessible to different types of users and modes of travel;
The implementation of a green landscape infrastructure integrating a sustainable management of runoff water at the site level;
The gradual distribution of densities and heights towards the river, contributing to the creation of a structuring built front on Boulevard René-Lévesque.
