Located on the Biosphere’s belvedere, the 2 models created by Tactile Studio, offer new insights into the volume of the building and its most prominent architectural details: a 62.8 m high geodesic dome and its structure, made up of triangles connected by nodes.
Two interpretation panels support the architectural models and allow for a more inclusive experience thanks to the addition of Braille texts. All visitors, including people with visual impairments, can thus explore the technological feat that is the Biosphere’s structure. All this, at the tips of THEIR/YOURS fingers!
The dome is a creation of one of the greatest visionaries of the twentieth century and one of the fathers of contemporary environmental thought: Richard Buckminster Fuller. This colossal structure surpasses all classification and is a source of inspiration for museum visitors, as well as for architects, designers, artists, scientists and environmentalists.
Buckminster Fuller believed we must manage the planet in a manner that respects the fundamental balance of ecosystems. This philosophy took form in buildings that used the least amount of materials while providing the maximum amount of space.
The Biosphere is the only museum in North America dedicated entirely to the environment. Its mission is to raise citizen awareness of environmental issues while encouraging individual action and collective engagement.
