Démarche de Placemaking – Esplanade Cartier
By : NÓS Architectes
GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 14e édition
Discipline : Urban Design, Landscape Architecture & Landscaping
Categories : Urban Design / Community Initiatives : Gold Certification
Placemaking's approach for the Esplanade Cartier aims, among other things, to encourage citizens to take ownership of public spaces from the earliest stages of the project. The objective is to create successful spaces that complement those of the neighbourhood and contribute to improving the urban experience for its current and future users . To date, the first three Acts of Placemaking have involved a total of 41 people, including 28 expert users from the community. The Placemaking events encourage the participation of a variety of neighbourhood stakeholders, including user experts involved in various fields and community organizations. During the activities held as part of the process, participants were asked to reflect on various aspects of the use of public space at different times of the year. Following each of the activities, the conclusions and proposals raised by the participants are discussed with the designers of NÓS, in order to incorporate as many elements as possible from the community interviews into the project. In this way, a new project culture is established, which aims to involve the citizens in order to create spaces that reflect the image of the neighbourhood and its inhabitants.
