CPE Les petites cellules
GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 11th edition
This is the motto that drives MENKÈS SHOONER DAGENAIS LETOURNEUX in designing this day-care centre. All details are thought-out to awake and feed the imagination, a vector of communication, learning and growth of young children. Large luminous spheres are suspended over the entrance, just like multicoloured suns shining in and soothing the kids there for the day. The pathway leads to the heart of the project, a space that looks like a little house and evokes a familiar and intimate space, a reassuring spatial bench- mark in a scaled-down-to-child-size world. Like observatories, small square windows pierce the house walls from one classroom to the next, allowing all to look in on what other classes are doing. Classrooms are set up along the glass facades, enhancing natural light and offering a spectacular view of the landscape and backyard.
The jury felt immersed in a contemporary Scandinavian childlike universe in which elements come together seamlessly. It recognizes that the discreet use of pastel colours and the inside volume mea- surement that truly create an enlightening home away from home.
