The construction of a new ski chalet on the top of a mountain obliges an in-depth reflection on the relationship between landscape and architecture. With restraint and respect, we accordingly devoted a careful analysis to the best tactics to deploy to ensure the conservation of such a spectacular and grandiose landscape, and how best to stage it.
A mountain, a snow-covered peak, a panoramic view and a new chalet; like a complement to the natural site, the architecture of the building unfolds gently, settles delicately on the summit, fades into its context and contributes to the impressive experience of the place. The long and articulated volume follows the shape of the summit. Its large white roof stands out from the ground to create a void, a habitable rift where the user experience is amplified by panoramic views of the landscape. Like a cracked tree, its interior exposes the natural, soft and warm wood through an envelope of immaculate white, in dialogue with the surroundings’ Nordic nature. The chalet can be seen from below, exposing its inner wooden shell which, in the evening, diffuses a warm light over the summit.
A place to rest, relax and contemplate, with every aspect designed to magnify the visitor's experience. This sober and articulated architecture sets the scene and blends in with the summit, like a simple line on the mountain.
