GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 14th edition
Discipline : Architecture
Categories : Residential Building / Prestige House : Platinum Winner
The project is located on a steep lot on the shores of Lake Memphremagog.
Clients see their home as a contemporary and warm place to gather with friends.
The main floor is made up of three volumes with a cathedral roof. The first houses the living spaces, the second the garage and the workshop, and the last contains the bedrooms. At their meeting, is the functional core as well as the staircase leading to the lower floor.
Partially recessed into the slope of the land, it hosts the guest rooms in a row.
Monochrome, the envelope of the three volumes of the upper floor consists of pre-aged wood cladding topped with stainless steel roofs. The corten steel base, with its tones of rust and brown, blends in with the roughness of the hemlock trees and conceals the house from the lake.
Inside, a palette of timeless materials is mixed; concrete floors, wood-decorated ceilings, as well as integrated furniture elements.
At the heart of the living space is the steel-clad central fireplace. With its 3 sides, it serves the kitchen, the dining room and the living room at the same time. Monumental, it is suspended from the roof and draws its angular geometry from the diagonal formed by the roof slopes.
Thus, the variation and angular geometry makes each space singular, each point of view dynamic, while blurring the perception of the scale of this house.
