GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 14th edition
Discipline : Interior Design
Categories : Education, Institution & Healthcare / University & Higher Education : Silver Certification
Located on Concordia University's Loyola Campus, the Applied Science Hub is a new open, bright, and efficient research and development centre, housing state-of-the-art facilities. Aiming for LEED Gold certification, this 8,700 m2 building offers a wide variety of research and teaching laboratory types (aquatic, bioprocessing, computer, and others.).
Combining the latest technologies with current research in spatial organization, layout, resilient and holistic design, the new pavilion offers spaces that promote meeting, communication, collaboration, interconnection, and innovation.
At the heart of the building, the laboratories are bordered by a pathway along the exterior wall, which gives more flexibility to their layout and brings in abundant natural light. The amplitude of the circulation, the glass partitions and the furniture with simple lines are all elements that contribute to connect users to the environment. The openness of the perspectives gives access to views of the surrounding heritage buildings, the vegetation and the works of art that surround them. While respecting the strict requirements related to the field of science, the design choices place the human being at the heart of the intention to offer a healthy, radiant environment where the creative spirit is stimulated.
