The essence of the project is to preserve the identity of the existing building, while proposing a contemporary extension in terms of footprint and height. The break in volume between the original body and the extension ensures that the contemporary intervention maintains the harmony of the project. The complete reconstruction of the original body was ensured by restoring all the original architectural components such as stone lintels, copings, wrought iron, etc.
The privileged location of the site, a stone’s throw from the Pie IX metro station, as well as at the intersection of the major arteries of Pie IX Boulevard and Pierre-de-Coubertin Avenue, gives it the status, as it were, of the gateway to the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve Borough. The project aims to mark the intersection with architecture of quality and presence.
We stayed true to our vision of creating value by redeveloping this site, which had been disused for several years, to add 22 rental units of various typologies, 10% of which will be affordable. Sustainable design guided the choice of materials and equipment for the project in order to achieve our targets for energy efficiency and sustainability.
