GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 14th edition
Discipline : Communication & Brand Design
Categories : Environmental Design / Brand Universe : Gold Certification
The Biôdome boutique is an interior design project composed of furniture and storage units for the recently renovated Montreal Biôdome boutique space. Conceived from a consortium of ADHOC architects and Messier Designers, the mandate was to renovate the 2100 sq. ft. boutique to revive the experience of the space.
The study of natural forms led the design team to research organization at the cellular level, the recurrence of structures and the forms associated with them. Several natural phenomena on different scales, such as the creation of the cells of a beehive, the erosion of rock formations and the formation of basalt organs, have been inspiring on a formal level.
Like a living organism capable of adapting and recreating itself, this “living” shop will evolve with the seasons and years. The reconfigurable modular layout will allow the shop's managers to adapt the products offered to respond to variations in the number of visitors and changes in customer preferences. This concept of an evolving boutique is based on the creation of simple elements (cells) that can be spatially composed and arranged together to build more complex modules. These modules, when combined, meet the operational and functional needs of product enhancement and related functions.
