Georges Adamczyk, director of the School of Architecture at the University of Montreal in 2006, described his work as follows :
«Marc Cramer proceeds by decomposing the image, freeing himself from the referent and the figurative weight of it, to reconfigure an abstract composition which then gives itself to see, as an image, as an autonomous work».
After having taught photography for more than three decades at the Université de Montréal, Marc Cramer is now embarking on a more personal artistic approach that is consistent in continuity while reflecting the current concerns of contemporary art. While the artistic dimension is constantly present in his architectural photographs, one can clearly perceive the influence of the architectural framework in the artist’s recent artistic photographs and in his various projects.
This amalgam of knowledge, skills and experience naturally led him towards the integration of art with architecture, commonly called the 1%. His artistic approach aims to create a poetic and aesthetic symbiosis based on two distinct works designed by the architect and the artist. By intertwining, these works of art become a harmonious whole that makes art accessible to the public. Recently, it carried out a 1% project as part of the construction of the Saint-Gérard school in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough of Montreal.»
