The offices of Jodoin Lamarre Pratte architectes, located in the Angus neighbourhood in Montréal, were expanded and refurbished in response to the team’s strong growth. Guided by the desire to offer a workplace conducive to the well-being and creativity of the staff, the designers completely rethought and reorganized the spaces according to the new needs, while opening them up and democratizing them in order to bring in a maximum of natural light. Work stations, glass-walled meeting rooms, a spacious lunch area, a coffee corner, a multifunctional room equipped with a retractable glass partition, a rooftop terrace, an indoor bike parking area and a shower for cyclists were added, while the reception area, shared workspaces and the materials library were reconfigured within the existing industrial building.
The expansion was an opportunity to demonstrate the company’s know-how and to reflect the sustainability principles dear to its practice. Therefore, a structure showcasing wood was developed and recognised as an innovative solution by the Ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs. From Rachel Street, the glass facade, mounted on a pedestal and protruding from the building, animates the fast-evolving area while providing light and floor-to-ceiling outdoor views to the occupants. At night, the illuminated window exposes the wood structure and becomes the theater of the activity taking place within.
