AGORA
A GATHERING PLACE TO CALL HOME
AGORA, the heart, square, and center of a new unique neighborhood in the Plateau area of Gatineau.
Bold and innovative, this new public square integrates a unique vision focused on people and sustainable development. Emphasizing alternative modes of transportation, everything is easily accessible on foot, by bike, or public transit.
The development of this square was designed to be within a unifying concept that highlights a philosophy focused on creating a strong, unique, and distinctive identity for the entire area, in order to create a sense of belonging for residents.
Designed as a central gathering place, the square features green lounges with distinctive furniture, a central lush garden, as well as a central carpet with unique lighting and a playful fountain offering shows and entertainment.
The square is lined with shops, restaurants, and residences, becoming a hub of activity for residents from noon to dawn.
The new Agora square aims to provide the area with a new high-quality green space for relaxation and leisure for all users and ensure permeability of movements and the creation of connections between the different elements of the square and its context.
The development contributes to the commercial and social revitalization of this suburban area of Gatineau.

Features and challenges:
Design a public space that combines recreational activities and a symbolic identity for the neighborhood;
Create an inviting and safe place for neighborhood residents;
Offer flexible and versatile spaces that allow for a variety of activities and events;
Create new connections within the neighborhood, linking existing residential components, libraries, parks, and schools;
Flexibility of usage, ease of maintenance, and durability;
Create a family of furniture, paving, lighting, and vegetation to create a unique signature for the square and the neighborhood;
Create a place that contributes to the commercial and economic success of the project.
