Wuhan Financial Street Sales Center
An Interface of Ecology, Commerce, and Contemporary Design
The Wuhan Financial Street Sales Center is a key component of the Wuhan East Lake Center—an ambitious mixed-use development positioned along the banks of East Lake, one of Wuhan’s most iconic natural assets. Strategically located adjacent to the East Lake Scenic Area, the site benefits from exceptional environmental quality, seamless connectivity, and regional prominence.
The masterplan spans 24 hectares and envisions a high-caliber urban complex integrating corporate headquarters, premium retail, art-infused ecological hotels, and executive serviced residences. Designed as a catalytic urban gateway, the development aspires to become a benchmark for Hubei Province, with influence extending at the national level.
Architecturally, the Sales Center embodies a dialogue between modernist clarity and ecological sensibility. The landscape architecture complements and extends this dialogue, serving as both a functional threshold and an immersive spatial experience.
The landscape design encompasses approximately 4,200 square meters, distributed across a ground-level arrival sequence and a rooftop social terrace. At grade, the landscape operates as a choreographed procession guiding visitors toward the main entrance while offering moments of pause and contemplation. The roof terrace serves as a more intimate, elevated setting for informal gatherings and community engagement.
A key design gesture is the integration of Prunus serrulata (Japanese Sakura), a species both emblematic of Wuhan and symbolic of renewal. This materializes in a poetic "Sakura Avenue," aligning with the building’s floral architectural motifs and reinforcing seasonal identity. Layered groundcover plantings and native flowering perennials articulate a biodiverse, multi-strata planting strategy that reflects the project’s ecological ethos.
A prominent water feature encircles the architectural massing, producing dynamic reflections and altering spatial perception through varied vantage points. At the main forecourt, a cascading water wall animates the entry plaza, generating acoustic ambiance and enhancing the sense of arrival.
Vehicular access on the western perimeter is discreetly integrated beneath a canopy of shade trees, balancing functional requirements with thermal comfort and visual softness.
Paving strategies prioritize sustainability through the use of ceramic permeable concrete (PC) bricks, offering a lower carbon alternative to traditional granite. These materials are laid in concentric patterns, evoking the ripple effects of water and visually linking the hardscape to the adjacent aquatic elements.
By night, the Sales Center transforms into a luminous beacon. Strategic lighting reveals the sculptural qualities of both architecture and landscape, underscoring the project’s commitment to experience-driven design.
