Project Overview
Located in central Atlanta, Georgia, the WPP Atlanta Campus is the newest addition to the Beltline, a transformative urban renewal project repurposing disused railways across the state. Situated in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood, this dynamic office space houses over 400 employees from various WPP companies, creating a hub of collaboration and innovation. Working with the architecture team, the design team drew inspiration from the train-inspired history of the site.
Design Solutions
Integrated Wayfinding:
A playful and functional wayfinding program seamlessly enhances the employee and visitor experience. At the main elevator lobby, flexible illuminated boxes prominently display WPP company logos, while corten steel panels echo the industrial aesthetic and connect to the reception’s logo band design. Throughout the floor plan, custom steel signage frames with wood and fluted glass inserts reinforce the cohesive material palette and add warmth to the space.
Beltline-Inspired Feature Wall:
A striking wall installation along the perimeter of the recording studio draws inspiration from the Beltline’s vintage train yards. Colorful, textured panels reminiscent of boxcars are mounted on wooden rails, celebrating the site’s historical roots while creating a bold visual centerpiece.
Custom Botanic Illustrations:
Breakout spaces are adorned with bespoke botanical illustrations inspired by the native plants found along the Beltline. These custom steel illustrations bring an industrial connection to the local environment while enhancing the project's inspired theme.
Materials and Palette
The design balances Atlanta’s industrial heritage with a warm and inviting material palette, blending corten steel, wood, glass, and distinctive custom artwork. This thoughtful combination creates a space that honors the past while fostering modern collaboration and creativity.
Impact
The WPP Atlanta Campus design celebrates the Beltline’s transformative vision by infusing its spirit into the workspace. Through innovative wayfinding, heritage-inspired installations, and unique botanical illustrations, the project creates a vibrant, functional, and locally connected environment that enriches the employee and visitor experience.
